Distributed Server Packaging Lead Engineer - Unix,Windows,Wise Studio Package,SCCS,Scripting,Middleware,Database,Backup,Disaster Recovery

In the role of Distributed Server Packaging Engineer Lead, you will be responsible to:
· Lead the end-to-end development lifecycle of all Packaging projects for offshore team (Team size of 3 including this)
· Hands-on technical lead with the ability to lead and mentor a technical team supporting package development and deployment
· Demonstrate ability to develop process and procedures related to work-intake and work flow management in all areas of responsibility
· Understanding business priorities and meet delivery milestones.
· Hands-on Development: Package software content for UNIX platforms (Linux, Solaris, AIX, etc) and Windows Server Platforms (W2K3, W2K8, etc). This would include (but not limited to) the following: gathering requirements from the customers (internal customers : OS Engineering teams, LOBs, Server Automation team, etc), building the packages to specifications both in native formats (RPM, pkgadd, LPP, MSI, etc) and also in formats that would facilitate installing them via in-house deployment tools (example : Software Policies for HP SA (opsware)), test them on test servers (unit, integration and system test), certify them for production installations, document installation instructions, help with deployments, provide post-deployment support.
· Ensure that developed packages integrate well with the underlying OS, other applications running on the target platform, and perform well without leading to other issues (performance, capacity, security, etc).
· Ensure that the developed packages have the required business intelligence integrated into them (for example: via pre/post installation scripts, etc) to configure them and also integrate them with rest of the target system.
· Ensure that solution developed is scalable, and does not compromise infrastructure security nor complicate current process.
· Create detailed documents for technical design and architecture.
· Work with others in the team in developing the technical design and architecture for Content Management and Server Automation projects. Ensure that the architecture and design of the solution is suitable for a global enterprise deployment.
· Follow SDLC best practices by developing content that meets design for enterprise requirements of scalability, performance, resiliency, security, and manageability.
· Develop test use cases for solution developed. Work with stakeholders to ensure that test use cases cover all aspects of business and technical requirements.
· Thoroughly test the solution developed to verify that it meets requirements. Document test results.
· Provide detailed status updates to project mangers for project deliverables on a regular basis. Identify issues, escalate issues, ensure deliverables are complete, and timelines are met.
· Deliver detailed documentation (Design Guide, User Guide, Test Plan, Test Results) for each project.
· Provide certification results for solution that documents solutions developed work for all use cases.

Qualifications:

1) Bachelor's degree or the equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Electronics or related technical field.
2) Minimum 5 years hands-on experience as a server engineer with packaging experience.
3) Strong hands on development experience (Required):
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with UNIX and Windows package development.
- Should have hands-on experience in packaging, testing and installing packages on both UNIX and Windows platforms.
- Mid-to-expert level knowledge of packaging software content for UNIX and Windows platforms (UNIX: RPMs, Windows: MSI, WINZIP, win.rar).
- Experience with WISE Package Studio or other similar packaging software is required.
- Strong knowledge of and experience with Yum, Yum Repo, RPM, RPM DB, and RPM related utilities is required.
- Experience with any SCCS (like SVN) is required
- Should have strong basic software programming and engineering skills.
- Should have recent experience in programming and should be proficient in Unix Shell scripting, PERL, VBScript, DOS Scripting. Knowledge of VB, Powershell and PYTHON is preferable.
- Demonstrate ability to learn and grasp technical concepts and procedures quickly.
- Strong UNIX OS fundamentals with knowledge about installing/ uninstalling packaged content, querying, versioning, etc. Admin level experience would be a plus.
- Strong Windows Server OS fundamentals including Windows arch and features, registry, WMI, 32/64bit differences, installer technology, etc. Admin level experience would be a plus.
- Any experience with HP SA (Opsware) too is highly preferable. Should be able to quickly ramp up to gain proficiency with the Opsware tool.
- Must be able to create and document technical design for solutions.
- Must be able to develop solution to meet requirements.

4) Technical understanding of the following (Preferable):
- UNIX OS Provisioning concepts (DHCP, Bootp, PXE, DNS, NFS, TFTP, SMB, NIM)
- Administration of Middleware and Database products (Apache, Tomcat, Weblogic, Websphere, Oracle, Sybase, SQLServer) and how they are installed and configured.
- Installation and configuration of Server management tools like Tivoli, Netbackup, SAV, ESM, NetSNMP.
- Knowledge of HP SA (Opsware) tool: Packaged content (RPMs, ZIPs, MSI, etc) has to be wrapped into 'Opsware' specific containers (software polices, patch policies) to be able to deploy them on target servers.
