Purpose of your role

This role is for an experienced hands-on “Technical specialist” with minimum 7 years experience.



The candidate is expected to work within the Services Support and Development team. The successful candidate will be expected to work on development projects to develop new or enhance existing integration and business services, centred on J2EE in a WebSphere environment.



As such, the role requires a high level of flexibility and the ability to work under pressure. Excellent written and verbal communications skills are essential to communicate effectively and appropriately to both business users and systems colleagues at all levels.



The role requires close working with colleagues in the UK offices, and as such the candidate may be required to work UK business hours at times. On occasion the candidate may also be required to undertake additional out of normal working hours work to cover changes and release implementations. This demanding role would perfectly suit a dynamic individual looking to work in a fast paced environment to ensure the smooth running of business critical systems.



Your key accountabilities

· Work with the system architects to create or review the best possible solutions to complex business/functional requirements or problems

· Ensure development quality standards/procedures are enhanced from time to time and are met by the development teams

· Provide regular updates and reporting to project managers

· Highlight risks and issues in a prompt and timely manner and give clear and concise details of resolutions

· Interact with customers to understand their problems, provide solutions or workarounds

* Produce technical guidance to assist team members in case of complex issues
* Ownership of problems from first notification through to resolution

· Impact Analysis for any changes required



Your skills and experience



· Essential skills

· CORE Java Knowledge (v 1.5 minimum) – Min 7 years

· J2EE Technologies (EJB, Servlets, JMS, JNDI, JTA etc.) – Min 5 years

· J2EE Design Patterns

· Experience in design and development of Web Services – Min 2 year

· Proven Application Performance tunings skills

· Understanding of Application Servers (Preferably IBM WebSphere 6.1/7.0)

· Development Tools (IBM RAD/Eclipse)

· Basic Oracle Skills (10g/11g, Basic Stored procedures, SQL etc.)

· Basic UNIX skills (Scripting, commands etc.)

· XML Schema design

· Spring

· Hibernate

· Ant Scripts

· Exposure to Unit testing Methodologies

· Understanding of Software Development Lifecycle

· Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written.



· Desirable skills

* WebSphere MQ

· Exposure to the Finance industry would be an advantage.

* Experience with WMB
* Source code management tools – Clearcase
